After the disruptions that COVID19 created, the organization needed to conduct a detailed assessment of Colombia’s feed grain demand that visualized the evolution of major trends, influences, and issues as they materialize over the next two decades. The outlook would identify opportunities and constraints for the growth in Colombia’s animal protein production industries, including production and feed management, upstream and downstream supply chain variances, and consumer-oriented product trends and distribution channels. This knowledge was essential to build a forecast of Colombia’s demand of yellow corn for feed use. Additionally, it was necessary to assess the potential of national corn production to estimate the share of imported corn.
Secondary research on Colombia’s economic and trade indicators and public policies to promote yellow corn production. In-depth qualitative research with main players (investment, trade and industry associations; private sector and industry associations; public sector representatives; academia / research centers; coarse grain buyers; animal feed producers; protein producers such as poultry, swine, dairy and beef; meat processing companies; and retail/ distributors) to obtain their insights about the future of the feed grains market in Colombia and identify trade dynamics, trends, opportunities, corn user’s perception on production potential and supply chain insights. In addition, a quantitative study was deployed among animal protein manufacturers and retailers to discover customer’s trends on animal protein consumption and market dynamics. Finally, an econometric model was built to forecast imported yellow corn demand considering all insights gathered.
Detailed report that included:
• Macroeconomics of Colombia’s animal protein consumption industry
• Animal protein consumer trends
• Feedstock, Livestock, and poultry industry dynamics
• Domestic corn production and self-sufficiency data
• Statistics and trends on feed grains supply and demand
• Local industry dynamics, international trade trends, barriers, and opportunities
• Regulatory framework
Additionally, a fully interactive dashboard was designed in Excel with the forecast of yellow corn imports of Colombia considering macroeconomics and industry trends. This dashboard is customer centric as it allows variables to be easily adjusted throughout the 20-year studied period. Plus, a contact list of key players related to the study (Corn importers, feed producers, animal protein producers, private and public associations) was provided.
